I’ve seen these egg roll in a bowl recipes going around for years and thought I’d take a shot at making my own version! Because of my SIBO diet, this version had to be made Low FODMAP and SCD friendly SO it doesn’t have any onion or garlic, which would probably be ideal in this type of recipe. So feel free to add that to your heart’s content! :)

This is all made in one pan which is so helpful when it comes to cleanup. I absolutely HATE doing dishes. And it’s only me that I’m feeding. I can’t imagine feeding an entire family and cleaning up after THAT hahah :) This recipe calls for one pound…

This recipe calls for one pound of ground pork. I use Butcher Box for most of my meat as it is super high quality, free range chicken, grass fed & finished beef, wild caught seafood and heritage breed pork. You can really taste the quality difference in my opinion. They are currently on a waitlist but when they open back up to new customers, i’ll post a referral link for you to use and get special deals!

For the slaw, I used bagged broccoli slaw from Whole Foods but feel free to use bagged coleslaw or cut up cabbage and carrots and make your own! I just like the ease of open and dump sometimes!

The sauce is a really yummy soy-free sauce. So instead of soy sauce, I used coconut aminos. I actually prefer the flavor to soy sauce. It has a sweeter taste. Trader Joe’s has the most budget friendly brand that I’ve found!

Enjoy!

EGG ROLL IN A BOWL WITH SWEET SESAME AIOLI

Serves 4

BOWL INGREDIENTS:
1 lb ground pork
1 12oz bag broccoli slaw
2 tbsp toasted sesame oil
1/4 cup coconut aminos
1 inch fresh ginger grated
1 tbsp white wine vinegar
1 tsp fish sauce
2 tsp honey
1 tsp salt
1/2 tsp pepper
Green onion for topping

AIOLI INGREDIENTS:
1/2 cup mayo
2 tsp toasted sesame oil
2 tsp honey
1/4 tsp salt
2 tsp lime juice

INSTRUCTIONS:
Heat large non-stick pan over medium heat & add sesame oil
Add ground pork to the pan. Cook & break apart until mostly cooked through.
Add broccoli slaw and combine with ground pork. Cook until slaw begins to soften
While the slaw is cooking, make your sauce by combining all ingredients into a mason jar or jar of choice.
When the slaw starts to soften, add your other bowl ingredients/seasonings and combine.
Cook until sauce starts to reduce in the pan. You don’t want it to have too much liquid remaining in the pan.
Serve and top with green onions, sesame seeds, cilantro, avocado!

NOTES:
-This recipe is low FODMAP so it does not contain onions or garlic. Normally this type of recipe would include those things. Feel free to add them to taste.
-If you don’t want to use ground pork, you could use ground chicken, beef or turkey. I haven’t tried those, so no promises on the flavor ;)
-You can use any other slaw that you like for the veggies. Thinly sliced cabbage and carrots, bagged regular cole slaw would all be great.
-leave out the honey if you want to make this recipe Whole 30 approved
